Ceol Mara

The 42′ Albatross class ketch Ceol Mara was built in 1964. Designed by Alan Buchanan the steel hull was made by Tak Bros. of Raamsdonksveer in the Netherlands and finished by Stebbings.

Buchanan had started building steel yachts in the Netherlands in the 1950’s, mainly for Dutch clients. This developed into a large part of the Buchanan business and Stebbings fitted out a number of Albatross class yachts as well as examples of the 31′ steel hulled Brabant class.

Ceol Mara was made for Lt. Cdr. Derek Silcock, DSC, RNR and is flying the burgee of the Royal Naval Sailing Association in the photo of her under sail. She was also displayed at the 1960 London Boat Show at Earl’s Court.
